Together with Ankit Garg (MSR India), Rafael Oliveira (U Toronto), and Avi Wigderson (IAS), QuSoft faculty Michael Walter recently organized a one-day tutorial & workshop on Scaling Algorithms and Applications at FOCS 2018 in Paris. FOCS is one of the premier conference series in Theoretical Computer Science. Scaling algorithms have found several applications in non-commutative algebra, derandomization, invariant theory, functional analysis, the theory of tensors, operator theory, combinatorial geometry, and quantum information. Tensor scaling, in particular, is deeply related to fundamental questions about many-body quantum states and may help shed new light on quantum marginals and multipartite entanglement. More information can be found on the workshop homepage.
